About Samosa Sandwich
Making a samosa sandwich is very easy. All you need are some samosas, sandwich chutney or green chutney, a few vegetable slices and bread. I had a few leftover homemade samosas, so I turned them into these delicious grilled sandwiches.
I am not sharing the complete samosa recipe here, as it would make this post too long. You can use my classic Samosa Recipe or opt to use any good quality store-bought samosas.
In Mumbai, samosas are often served with Pav or White Bread, giving rise to popular snacks like Samosa Pav, Samosa Sandwich and even Samosa Burger.
To make these sandwiches from scratch, you will need:
- Samosa
- Sandwich Chutney, Mint Chutney or Coriander Mint Chutney
- Regular white bread or Sandwich Bread
- Veggies like onion, tomato, cucumber and capsicum
Instead of the traditional Punjabi Samosa, you can also use Singara (Bengali Samosa), Onion Samosa or my Whole Wheat Baked Samosa made with whole wheat flour.
I have used onion, tomato and cucumber in this recipe, but you can also add thinly sliced capsicum if you like.
These samosa sandwiches also make a great party snack that is easy to assemble and grill or toast. You can prepare the chutney a day ahead and refrigerate it until ready to use.
If you have leftover homemade samosas, this sandwich is a great way to use them. You can also make Samosa Chaat or Samosa Pav with them.
Serve the samosa sandwich hot with mint chutney, coriander chutney, tomato ketchup or any green chutney of your choice. It makes for a filling tea-time snack.

How to make Samosa Sandwich (Stepwise)
1. First assemble all the ingredients as shown in the below photo.

2. Take the bread slices and spread some butter on them. You can slice the edges or corners of the bread if you prefer.
You can use any type of bread like whole wheat bread, multi grain bread, brown bread or white bread. Best to use fresh bread that has a soft crumb.

3. Now spread mint chutney on the bread slices. Instead of mint chutney, you can also use sandwich chutney or mint cilantro chutney or cilantro chutney.

4. Take a Samosa and crush it lightly. Place the lightly crushed samosa on one bread slice.

5. Place two to three slices each of onion, cucumber and tomatoes. You can also add capsicum slices, if you like.
Some grated cheese can also be added. Tomatoes can be skipped if you do not like it. Some boiled potato slices can also be added.
If you like paneer then you can top up the sandwich with a few thin slices of paneer or grated paneer.

6. Sprinkle 1 to 2 pinches of roasted cumin powder, chaat masala or sandwich masala and black salt or regular salt all over the vegetable slices.

7. Cover with the second bread slice.

8. Place samosa sandwich in a preheated sandwich maker.

9. Grill or toast till the sandwich is crisp and golden.

10. Remove the samosa grilled sandwich carefully. Slice and then serve hot.
Assemble and toast/grill the remaining sandwiches in batches in the same way.

11. Serve sandwich samosa hot or warm with Coriander Chutney or Tomato Ketchup or Green Chutney or any dipping sauce of your choice.

Helpful Tips
- You can use white, Whole Wheat Bread, Brown Bread, multigrain or sandwich bread for this recipe. Fresh bread with a soft crumb gives the best texture after grilling or toasting.
- Trim the crusts from the bread slices if you prefer a neater sandwich. You can also leave them on.
- Homemade as well as store-bought samosas work well in this recipe.
- Sandwich chutney gives the classic Mumbai street-style flavor. Mint chutney or coriander mint chutney are also good alternatives.
- Along with onion, tomato and cucumber, you can add thinly sliced capsicum or boiled potato slices for extra texture and flavor. Skip the tomatoes if you prefer.
- If you enjoy cheesy sandwiches, add a layer of grated cheese before grilling. It melts beautifully and makes the sandwich richer.
- Paneer lovers can add a few thin slices of paneer or some grated paneer before grilling.
- To serve a crowd, prepare the chutney a day ahead and refrigerate it. Assemble and grill these sandwiches just before serving so that they stay crisp.
