Ganga Jamuna Juice (Orange & Sweet Lime Juice)
Ganga Jamuna juice is a refreshing mocktail drink made by combining fresh orange juice and sweet lime (mosambi) juice. This simple fruit juice has a balanced taste that is both sweet and slightly tangy. It is commonly served at juice stalls and restaurants across Mumbai. Light, hydrating and quick to make, this juice is perfect for summer days.
About Ganga Jamuna Juice
Ganga Jamuna juice is a popular Mumbai street food drink made with a mix of sweet lime (mosambi in Hindi) and orange juice. The name might sound unusual at first, but it simply refers to a vibrant blend of two different fruit juices, much like the coming together of the two sacred Indian rivers, the Ganga and the Jamuna.

I remember the first time I saw the name ‘Ganga Jamuna juice’ on a restaurant menu in Mumbai. I had no idea what to expect. It sounded like something symbolic or traditional. When we asked, the waiter explained that it is simply a combination of orange and sweet lime (mosambi) juice. Simple, but such a good idea.
Once I tried it, I really liked the taste. The sweet lime provides a gentle, cooling sweetness, while the orange adds a bright tang and a deeper flavor. Together, they create a wonderfully balanced drink that is much more interesting than having either one on its own.
This juice is very common in Mumbai. You will easily find it at local juice stalls, popular juice centers and even restaurants. It is usually freshly extracted and served immediately.
When sweet lime is in season, I make both Mosambi Juice and this Ganga Jamuna juice at home. Both are light and refreshing, especially in hot weather. I also often make Orange Juice.

Without Using Juicer
To make this juice, you can use an electric juicer or a manual citrus juicer. If you do not have either, peel the fruits, remove seeds, blend the segments in a blender and strain the juice.
Always serve Ganga Jamuna juice immediately. Citrus juices can turn bitter if kept for too long. You can add a few ice cubes while serving if you prefer it chilled.

How To Make Ganga Jamuna Juice (Stepwise)
1. Peel and separate the segments from 3 large oranges (600 grams) and 3 large sweet limes (600 grams).

2. Add the fruit segments to a juicer feeder tube.
Note: If you do not have a juicer, you can cut the fruits into halves and use a manual citrus juicer.

3. Extract the juice.

4. Pour the extracted Ganga Jamuna juice in a bowl or pan.

5. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons sugar or as needed.
Tip: If the fruits are naturally sweet, you can skip the sugar. If they taste slightly sour, add sugar according to your taste.

6. Add about ⅛ teaspoon black salt.
Note: You can skip adding black salt, if you do not have it.

6. Mix well until the sugar dissolves completely. If the juice feels too thick, you can add a little water to adjust the consistency.

7. Pour into glasses and serve Ganga Jamuna juice immediately, as it can turn bitter if kept for some time. Add a few ice cubes while serving if you like.
You can also sprinkle a few pinches of Chaat Masala and Roasted Cumin Powder while serving.

Helpful Tips
- Use sweet and juicy fruits: Both oranges and sweet limes should taste naturally sweet. If oranges are too tangy, you will need more sugar. If sweet limes are mild and not sweet enough, the juice will lack flavor.
- Check the taste: Always taste the juice before serving. Adjust sugar depending on how sweet or tangy the fruits are.
- Add black salt carefully: Just one to two pinches of black salt is enough. Too much can overpower the fresh citrus taste. You can also skip it.
- Do not store the juice: Fresh citrus juice can turn slightly bitter after some time. Serve it immediately after making.
- Adjust consistency: If the juice feels too thick, add a little chilled water. Keep it slightly thick for better flavor.
- Use fresh extraction: Freshly extracted juice tastes best. Avoid packaged juices for this recipe.
- Chill before serving: You can chill the fruits before juicing or add a few ice cubes while serving.
