Berry Smoothie Recipe (Berry Blast Drink)
A berry smoothie is a cold blended drink made with mixed berries, yogurt, milk, juice or other liquids. It can be prepared with fresh or frozen berries and is often thick, creamy and naturally fruity in taste. Many mixed berry smoothie recipes also include banana or sweeteners for better texture and flavor balance. Berry smoothies are commonly served for breakfast or as a refreshing drink.
About Berry Blast Smoothie Recipe
This berry smoothie is a thick and creamy café-style drink made with fresh mixed berries, yogurt and banana. You can also use frozen berries and adjust the flavor with your preferred mix of berries and sweetener.
Use the berries that are easily available to you or any combination of berries you prefer in this smoothie.
Greek yogurt gives a creamy texture, while banana naturally sweetens and balances tart berries. This berry smoothie recipe comes together quickly in a blender and works well for breakfast, snacks or a light meal.
Berry Combination Used
I have used strawberries, blueberries, mulberries and black raspberries in this berry blast smoothie. Red raspberries can also be used instead of black raspberries.
Strawberries form the bulk of the smoothie and add natural sweetness and volume. The remaining berries add color, body and slight tang.
Blueberries deepen the color and give body to the smoothie. Mulberries add mild sweetness and soften the tart taste from the raspberries.
Raspberries add a slightly tangy berry flavor. Their seeds can make the smoothie slightly gritty, so you can reduce them to ⅓ or ¼ cup for a smoother texture.
Fresh Or Frozen Berries
Both fresh and frozen berries work well in this berry smoothie recipe.
With fresh berries, you may not need to add milk or water while blending as the fruits release enough juices naturally.
Frozen berries make the smoothie more thick and slushy, similar to café-style berry blast smoothies.
If using frozen berries, use about 2½ cups of the total berries and add some milk, almond milk or water while blending.
Sweetener & Yogurt Options
I prefer using Greek yogurt because it makes the smoothie thick and creamy. Regular yogurt also works well.
Banana adds natural sweetness and improves the texture. If the berries are tangy, you may still need to add sugar or maple syrup even when using banana. If skipping banana entirely, you will need to add some sweetener for balance.
You can sweeten the smoothie with sugar, maple syrup, honey, agave syrup or your preferred sweetener. If the berries are naturally sweet, then extra sweetener may not be needed.
For a plant-based option, use almond yogurt, cashew yogurt or coconut yogurt.

How To Make Berry Smoothie (Stepwise)
1. Rinse 1 cup strawberries, ½ cup blueberries, ½ cup mulberries and ½ cup raspberries very well in water. Drain all the water thoroughly in a strainer or colander.
Hull the strawberries and chop them if large. Smaller strawberry pieces blend more easily and quickly.
You can use the berries that are easily available to you or any combination of berries you prefer.

2. Add the strawberries, blueberries, mulberries and raspberries to a blender jar.

3. Add ½ cup chopped banana.
If you do not prefer banana, you can skip it and make the smoothie without it. In that case, you may need to add more sweetener, especially if the berries are tangy.

4. Next add ½ cup Greek yogurt. You can use plain or vanilla Greek yogurt. Regular yogurt or homemade Indian yogurt or Curd can also be used.
If your berries taste tangy, add 1 to 2 tablespoons sugar or maple syrup. If the berries are naturally sweet and you are using banana, you may not need extra sweetener.

5. Blend the ingredients first without adding any liquid. Fresh berries usually release enough juices while blending.
If the smoothie looks too thick or if using frozen berries, add ¼ to ½ cup milk or water as needed.
Add 4 to 5 ice cubes if you prefer a colder berry blast smoothie with a frosty café-style texture.
Blend till smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust sweetness or consistency as needed.

6. Pour the mixed berry smoothie into glasses and serve immediately.

Serving Suggestions & Storage
Serve this berry smoothie immediately after blending for the best taste and texture.
You can top the smoothie with sliced berries, granola, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds or chopped nuts before serving.
This berry blast smoothie pairs well with toast, muffins, Pancakes, Waffles or Oatmeal for breakfast.
Leftovers can be refrigerated for a few hours in a covered bottle or jar. Stir or shake before serving as the smoothie may separate slightly over time.
Helpful Tips
- Use sweet ripe berries: Naturally sweet berries reduce the need for extra sugar, maple syrup or other sweeteners. After blending, taste the smoothie and add sweetener if needed.
- Frozen berries make the smoothie thicker: I have used fresh berries here, but frozen berries give the smoothie a more thick, frosty and slushy café-style texture. You may need to add some milk or water while blending frozen berries.
- Adjust liquids gradually: Add milk or water only if needed and little by little so the smoothie stays thick and creamy. Fresh berries usually do not need extra liquid while blending.
- Balance tart berries: If your raspberries or blueberries are too tangy, add some extra banana like I have done or a bit of sweetener to balance the flavors.
- For smoother texture: Reduce the raspberries slightly if you do not prefer tiny berry seeds. I do not recommend straining the smoothie as some of the fiber and fruit pulp will be lost.
- Greek yogurt gives the best texture: Greek yogurt makes this mixed berry smoothie rich, creamy and filling.
