About These Pizza Puffs

I’m so excited to be sharing this very simple and extraordinarily tasty recipe for pizza Puffs. Delicate puff pastry rounds are topped with pizza sauce, veggies, and melty cheese for a yummy, kid-friendly snack that is much healthier than the pizza rolls you can find in the frozen section of the grocery store.

Less a recipe than a snack idea, this is an endlessly riff-able template that’ll come in handy for parties and celebrations. Feel free to add your choice of toppings, even going so far as to change the sauce to suit your needs.

You can either use store-bought puff pastry sheets or try my Rough Puff Pastry. All in all, you’ll need about 300 grams of puff pastry to make a full batch.

With just 10 minutes of active time needed, you can easily make pizza puff as a quick after-school snack for kids or as a last-minute party snack. Simply cut the pastry, add your favorite toppings, then bake for 20 minutes. It’s truly that easy!

Step-by-Step Guide

How To Make Pizza Puffs

Prep The Puff Pastry Dough

These pizza puffs are one of the easiest snack recipes around. Here’s how you’ll make them:

1. Before you begin making the pizza puffs, preheat your oven to 250 degrees C/480 degrees F for at least 15 minutes.

If you are using my Rough Puff Pastry recipe, then slice the puff pastry in three equal parts. Take just one part and wrap the remaining two parts in foil or cling film and refrigerate or freeze.

If using store brought puff pastry dough, then follow the instructions on the pack.

Optional Variations

While I love the classic combination of pizza sauce, onions, and capsicum, there are tons of ways to customize these pizza puffs to your liking. Here are some of my favorite ideas:

  • Use a different sauce as your base. Try using Pesto, White Sauce, or even a simple brush of extra virgin olive oil with a sprinkling of salt.
  • Add extra veggies or toppings. Black olives, pickled peppers, sautéed mushrooms, roasted squash, or even pineapple and vegan sausage are all welcome!
  • Use a different cheese. Try fresh or aged mozzarella, burrata, cheddar, gouda, jack or colby.
  • Make them into squares or triangles. Who says pizza has to be round?

FAQs

How many pizza puffs is a serving?

If you are serving these as a meal, I’d say one batch will feed 2 to 3 adults. If these will be served as part of an appetizer spread at a party, I’d suggest making about 4 pieces per person.

Can I make them in a microwave oven?

So long as your microwave has a convection or oven feature, yes! However, it will not work on “microwave” mode.

Can I make pizza puffs in an air fryer?

Since an air fryer is simply a convection oven, yes!

  1. Thanks for this! Can you post more recipes with the puff pastry – like eggless cream puffs, scones etc?

    1. Yes, planning to add some baking recipes in the coming months. Welcome.

  2. Can I roast the puff (with home made dough of ur receipt)on a fry pan with little oil or butter as I have used frozen puff pastry dough to make puffs on fry pan or even in sandwich maker

    1. you can try nahid. i think in a sandwich maker the recipe will work well than in a fry pan.

  3. Hi I have microwave convection oven with highest temperature of 200°c. Can I bake at dis temp. If so how many minutes sud I preheat and bake?5 stars

    1. yes you can bake at 200 degree celsius. preheat your oven at the same temperature of 200 degrees celsius for 15 minutes. then bake till the top is golden. i cannot give the exact time for baking as the timing changes from oven to oven. so do check after 10 to 15 minutes, as in a microwave oven the baking is quick.

  4. hi… I wanna try this out but my microwave has only timer mode. can u please tell me how much tym should I bake them.

    1. veg puffs cannot be made in the microwave mode of the microwave oven, which is timer based.

    1. same as mentioned in the recipe. i have also baked these pizza puffs in OTG only 🙂

  5. superb recipe, can we do this in microwave oven?..As my kids keep nagging me for pizza, I prefer to do it at home.We have stopped buying from outside,as matter of consciousness about junk food. Can u help me to do pizza with chicken pieces made at home. And how will we make pizza sauce.Usually I buy delmonte pizza sauce for doing pasta at home.Is it good?

    1. if you have convection mode in your microwave oven, then you can bake these in the convection mode. use the same temperature as mentioned in the recipe post. for chicken, you just need to either grill or roast chicken. you can marinate the chicken with the herbs you want and then grill or roast in oven or in a pan. then use them in the recipe. i never buy any read pizza sauces as most of them have a lot of preservatives. so i prefer to make them at home.
