About Bread Pizza Recipe
Whenever you’re craving Pizza but don’t have the time to make one from scratch, this Bread Pizza is a great choice. It is quick to prepare and needs only a few ingredients.
All you need are bread slices, pizza sauce, cheese and your favorite vegetable toppings. I like to use onions, tomatoes and capsicum (bell pepper). Sometimes I also add olives, steamed sweet corn, baby corn, sautéed mushrooms or sautéed spinach.
For the sauce, I recommend my homemade Pizza Sauce, but you can also use Marinara Sauce, Pesto, Mayonnaise or White Sauce for a different flavor.
This recipe is easy to customize with the ingredients you have on hand. You can make it with gluten-free bread if needed. For a vegan version, use your favorite plant-based cheese or simply skip the cheese.
You can also double or triple the recipe when making it for family, small get-togethers or parties.

How To Make Bread Pizza (Stepwise)
Toast Bread
1. Heat a heavy tawa or a flat skillet or griddle. Spread about ½ to 1 teaspoon olive oil on it. You can also use butter if you prefer. Keep the heat to its lowest setting.

2. Place bread slice on the warmed pan. Depending on the size of the tawa or pan, you may be able to fit 1 to 2 slices.
You can use any variety of bread like white bread, whole wheat, brown bread, or multi-grain bread.
In the recipe I have used 6 large bread slices. Depending on the bread size, you could make this snack with more or less bread.

3. Lightly toast the bread from the base and then flip it.

Assemble Bread Pizza
4. Now quickly spread some pizza sauce on the lightly toasted side. For pizza sauce recipe, you can check here – Pizza Sauce.

5. Quickly top with small onion cubes.

6. Then quickly place capsicum cubes. While adding the topping keep the heat to its lowest. You can also turn off the heat when you place toppings on the pizza.

7. Now quickly top with small tomato cubes. Also, add some sliced olives. Both tomatoes and olives are optional and you can skip them.
You can even add steamed corn kernels or sautéed mushrooms. Sautéed spinach can also be included.

8. Sprinkle dried herbs like oregano, basil. Additionally sprinkle some crushed black pepper or black pepper powder.
You can even include fresh basil leaves instead of dried basil. Addition of black pepper is optional.
You can even add pizza seasoning instead of adding dried herbs separately.

9. Now quickly top with grated mozzarella cheese or pizza cheese.

10. Keep the heat to its lowest. Place a lid over the bread pizza.

11. Cook until the cheese melts and the bread is toasted golden.

12. Remove the bread pizza with a spatula and place it on a serving plate. Sprinkle some red chili flakes or oregano if you want. This is completely optional.

12. Serve Bread Pizza hot as is or accompanied with Tomato Ketchup or pizza sauce. Similarly make more bread pizza with the remaining slices of bread in batches.

Ingredients & Substitutions
- Sandwich Bread – You can use whole wheat, white, multi-grain, sourdough, or brown bread. Gluten-free bread also works.
- Olive Oil – For toasting the bread to golden perfection. Feel free to use butter for a richer flavor.
- Pizza Sauce – Homemade pizza sauce is simple to make at home, and is great to keep in the freezer. You’re also welcome to use store-bought sauce, or feel free to swap in any alternative that suits you. Alfredo Sauce, pesto, BBQ sauce, or even sriracha can be used instead.
- Veggies – For the recipe, I used onion, capsicum, tomato, and olives, but you can use veggies of your choice. Some other good options include steamed or sautéed corn, cooked mushrooms, spinach, artichoke hearts, roasted eggplant, and asparagus.
- Cheese – I used mozzarella cheese for more of a traditional pizza flavor profile, but any variety of melting cheese will work well.
- Herbs & Spices – Dried oregano, dried basil, red pepper flakes, and black pepper are excellent additions, but are not necessary.
Dassana’s Recipe Tips
- Pan Type: Be sure to use a heavy tawa, skillet or pan. If you use a tawa or skillet that is not heavy, then the bread can get burnt from the bottom.
- Heating: Low heating is the key here as it slowly creates a nice golden crust on the base of the bread. Keep the heat to its lowest setting when making the entire recipe.
- On Preparations: Chop all the veggies and keep them ready before you start preparing the pizza. Once you get started toasting the bread, the process goes very quickly! Also, keep the veggie cubes small.
- Bread: Feel free to use a loaf that is a few days old. Pan-frying the bread with a little oil makes it crisp again, while the sauce, vegetables and cheese keep it moist and flavorful.
- Serving Suggestions: While these toasted bread pizzas are excellent on their own, you’re also welcome to dip them in the sauce of your choice. I like serving mine with some extra pizza sauce or tomato ketchup on the side. Other options include ranch dressing, BBQ sauce, hot sauce, mayonnaise, and pesto.

Great recipe! I made the bread pizza using the recipe in microwave oven as l did not have a heavy tawa.
I pre-heated the oven for 7-8 minutes with oil on the pizza tray. Then put four breads with all the ingredients for 7-8 minutes in the pre-heated microwave.
I operated the microwave on pizza mode. And voila a crispy tasty bread pizza was ready!
That sounds wonderful. So glad the recipe worked well for you in the microwave oven. Preheating the tray with oil was a smart move — it really helps get that crisp base. Thank you for sharing your method, it’ll definitely help others too.
