  1. Thank you so much for this recipe! Turned out so flavorful and the deep pink color made it fun to eat. Served this with poori masala.

Wonder how it would turn out if instead of beets, I pureed peas or spinach to make it green, or carrots or pumpkin could make it orange?

Only downside is this meal does spike your blood sugar and makes you sleepy, so an occasional treat.5 stars

    1. So glad you enjoyed the beetroot puris. Yes, you can definitely try the same method with spinach or green peas for green puris, and carrots or pumpkin for an orange version — they turn out beautiful and tasty too. And yes, it’s true — since they are deep-fried, it’s best to enjoy them occasionally.

  2. I have made this twice, its a really interesting way to make kids and elders eat beetroot. Only the colour shows that something has been added to the dough, there is no overpowering taste of beetroot in the final puri as such. So was easily accepted by my kid..Thanks. One doubt though..is this good for diabetics? I get confused by contradictory opinions about beetroot’s harm and benefits to those suffering from diabetes. What’s your opinion/experience?5 stars

    1. yes, the color cannot be avoided and anyone will come to know something has been added. my mother-in-law who is a borderline diabetic does not have beetroot. it used to spike her sugar levels. so whatever food i make with beetroot, i don’t serve to her. hope this helps. finally thanks for the review and rating.

  3. I was thinking to try out a new recipe with beetroot and saw your recipe.

  5. I generally stay away from making Pooris because by the time I’m done frying one batch,I’ve no appetite left to eat it.So I make sure my amma or mil make it for me whenever I visit them.Pink Pooris look so pretty that I’m tempted to make a batch myself,my toddler would love this too!!5 stars

    1. I have a roti maker which is a life saver for bulk pooris, (mathri and paani-pooris) or even at home. I roll pooris on it and coll and store in the refrigerator when needed just bring to room temp. and fry fast for the crowd and no mess for atta belan in kitchen. I do beetroot, spinach and carrot pooris on festivals. It looks good and kids eat without a fuss.

  6. interesting one, havent heard of it.Its colourful n good for the kids.As no kid likes beetroot as a vegetable.??

  7. Very nice & healthy recipe. Thank you for sharing. I have one question that whether ajwain can be added to these puris? Also, is there any need of adding moyan to the dough?4 stars

    1. welcome anupam. ajwain can be added. i have not added ajwain as i have added fennel seeds and ginger, both of which are good in digestion. if using ajwain, then just add directly to the flour. no need to grind it with the beetroot. also skip fennel seeds if adding ajwain. you can add moyan. even i have added 1 teaspoon oil, but i forgot to mention in the steps. so will add it now.
