til khoya ladoo recipe

for the ladoo recipe i have used an instant version of khoya which i will share in some time. this is a four ingredient ladoo and does not take much time. its also easy to make these til ladoos.

you can double or triple the recipe and make a big batch of til ladoos. do refrigerate the ladoos as mawa is added to them. i had seen this recipe in a cookbook ‘rajasthan on a platter’. adapted the recipe and made it a couple of times. it was big hit at my place, so thought of sharing the recipe. i have already shared recipe of making rava ladoo with khoya and coconut ladoo with khoya.

usually til ladoo are made in the winter season. i made them a few days back as the constant rains and chilly winds had made the temperature in this city slightly cold.

i have used powdered sugar in the recipe. i ground unrefined cane sugar and made the powder. you can even use jaggery powder or grated jaggery instead of powdered sugar. if using organic jaggery powder, then just run it through a mixer for some seconds, so that the tiny hard lumps in it are broken.

two more variations of sesame ladoos i have shared on website are:

do note that sesame is heaty, so please avoid if you have heat related physical issues. these ladoos do help in keeping the body warm during cold seasons. other recipes you can make with sesame are sesame chutney, dukkah and sesame toast recipe. i have also posted sesame seeds flax seeds blend which is a healthy blend mix.

serve til ladoo as a sweet snack. you can also make these ladoos as naivedyam.

cuisine north indian
prep time 5 minutes
cook time 5 minutes
total time 10 minutes
servings 8 medium sized ladoos
rough calories per serving 143 kcal

ingredients (1 cup = 250 ml)

  • ½ cup unpolished white sesame seeds (safed til) OR 80 grams
  • ½ cup tightly packed grated khoya OR 80 grams mawa (evaporated milk solids)
  • cup powdered sugar OR 65 grams or add as required
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons ghee or add as required

how to make recipe

preparation:

  1. grate 80 grams of khoya or mawa. you will need ½ cup tightly packed grated khoya. keep aside.

  2. before you begin, take the sesame seeds in a plate or tray. pick them if there are any small tiny stones.

roasting & grinding sesame seeds:

  1. heat a thick bottomed kadai or pan. keep the flame to low or medium. add ½ cup unpolished white sesame seeds.

  2. on a low flame or sim, stirring often roast the sesame seeds.

  3. the sesame seeds should become crunchy. so do roast well. you will also hear their crackling and popping sound when being roasted.

  4. roast for 4 to 5 minutes on a low flame. taste a few seeds and they should be crisp and crunchy.

  5. remove them in a plate or tray and let the seeds cool down at room temperature.

  6. then add them in a grinder jar or mixer. run grinder or mixer for a few seconds and then stop. check the consistency. scrape the sides and add in the jar. you can also use the pulse option in your grinder.

  7. grind to a fine powder. a bit of oil releasing from the powder is also fine. but do not grind at a stretch or grind too much as then oil will be released and you will get sesame seed paste. in case this happens, then use this sesame seeds paste to make tahini, which is very easy. to make tahini add some olive oil and salt in it and grind for some seconds.

roasting khoya:

  1. again heat the same kadai or pan. keep the flame to a low and add ½ cup tightly packed grated khoya.

  2. stirring continuously roast for 1 to 2 minutes.

  3. the khoya will become crumbly and lumpy.

making til khoya ladoo:

  1. switch off the flame and then add the ground sesame seeds powder in the kadai.

  2. keep the kadai down and then add ⅓ cup powdered sugar.

  3. mix very well with a spatula or spoon.

  4. let the heat reduce a bit and then with your fingers mix everything very well. the heat should be tolerable to you. if not then wait and let the heat reduce a bit and then mix. break the small lumps of powdered sugar and khoya with your fingers. mix very well.

  5. then add 1 to 2 tablespoons ghee. mix again well.

  6. now take some portion of the til khoya ladoo mixture in your palms and begin to shape into ladoos. if you add more ghee the ladoos will have a smooth finish and appearance.

  7. use up the entire mixture to make the ladoos this way. store them in an air-tight container and refrigerate.

  8. serve til mawa ladoo as a sweet snack. you can also make these ladoos as naivedyam.

  1. Hi,

Lovely pics.. Can this be given to 2.5 year old? I have never used khoya before..hence the concern..n where can I buy it?

    • sneha, these ladoos can be given to a 2.5 year old. in india khoya is available in mithai as well as dairy stores. but i would advise to make khoya at home as i have heard strange ingredients are added in it. preparing khoya with the traditional method at home takes a lot of time. so you can make instant khoya. for this ladoo recipe, just take 1/2 cup full fat milk powder in a bowl. add 2 tablespoons of hot boiling water. mix with a spoon. it will look crumbly. once warm then knead it lightly. grate and then use it. you can also check this sesame ladoo recipe where khoya is not used and jaggery is added – https://www.vegrecipesofindia.com/til-ladoo-recipe-til-gud-ke-ladoo/
