vegetable biryani recipe made in pressure cooker – spiced one pot recipe of south indian style vegetable biryani made in pressure cooker with step by step photos.

sharing one more recipe request. a version of an easy south indian vegetable biryani recipe in pressure cooker was requested by a few readers. south india has its own variety of biryani recipes using broadly two methods – one method is of layering and dum cooking like the way its done for traditional biryani. the second method is of a one pot cooking without any layering.

this recipe variation of the biryani follows the method of cooking in a pot or pan. just that instead of a pan, a pressure cooker is used to cook. that said, you can even make this biryani in a pan instead of pressure cooker. by now i have shared around 17 veg recipes made in pressure cooker like:

  1. pressure cooker cake recipe
  2. pav bhaji in pressure cooker
  3. veg biryani recipe in pressure cooker
  4. paneer biryani recipe in pressure cooker
  5. mushroom biryani recipe in pressure cooker

this is a slightly spicy vegetable biryani. for a more spicy version, you can add more green chilies and red chilli powder. in south indian biryani varities, seeraga samba rice is used. seeraaga samba rice is a small grained rice and aromatic. the grains resemble cumin seeds and hence the name seeraga or jeeraga samba or jeera samba rice. jeera is known as seeragam in tamil language.

i personally prefer to use this rice in some biryani recipes as well as pulao as they do not become sticky and have a different taste. basmati rice can also be used to make this biryani since seeraga samba rice will not be easily available in other parts of india.

while making south indian versions of biryani, i generally prefer to grind all the ingredients rather than saute everything separately. so this makes for an easier method of cooking biryani in pressure cooker and tastes good too.

you can serve south indian style vegetable biryani with raita or a side salad or pickle.
