Maa Ki Dal

Rinse and soak whole black gram with husk (sabut urad dal) in enough water for 30 to 40 minutes. To know more, swipe up!

Heat ghee, oil or butter in a pressure cooker. Crackle cumin seeds on low heat. Then, add chopped onions.

Fry onions on low to medium-low heat till light golden or golden. Stir at regular intervals.

Add pureed tomatoes, stir and mix well.

Add crushed ginger and garlic. Mix well.

Next, add coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder and garam masala powder.

Stir the spice powders well into the tomato puree.

Add finely chopped green chili.

Sauté the masala on low to medium-low heat till the oil starts to leave the sides. Stir often.

Add soaked and drained whole black gram.

Add water, salt and stir to mix. Cover and pressure cook for 20 to 25 minutes on medium to medium-high heat or till the dal is soft. To know more, swipe up!
