Place a saucepan on medium-high heat and pour water in it.
Add sugar or your preferred sweetener. Also, add other spices or flavorings, if using.
Allow the water to come to a gentle simmer. Stir occasionally, till the sugar dissolves.

Cover and let the tea leaves steep for 2 to 3 minutes. Do not steep for longer as the tea may become bitter.
Use a sieve to strain the tea leaves.
