Dal Khichdi

Rinse and soak moong lentils and rice together in water for about 30 minutes. To know more, swipe up!

Next, heat ghee or oil in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds.

As soon as the cumin seeds begin to splutter, add finely chopped onions.

Sauté the onions till they turn soft and translucent.

Now, add chopped tomatoes, chopped ginger and chopped green chilies.

Mix the ingredients well with the sautéed onions.

Add turmeric powder and asafoetida.

Sauté, stirring often, till the tomatoes soften.

Add drained moong lentils and rice. Stir for a minute till the ingredients are combined.

Season the mixture with salt.

Mix and sauté the khichdi mixture for a minute.

Add water and mix well, deglazing the bottom and sides of the cooker. To know more, swipe up!

Cover tightly with the lid and pressure cook for 7 to 8 whistles or 8 to 9 minutes on medium-high to high heat. To know more, swipe up!
