rose milk recipe

As a rule we try to avoid carbonated drinks because they are not cooling for the body and not good for health. So this summers try some of these Cooling Indian beverages.

Rose milk is a flavored drink and is good for beating the summer heat. During summers we always prefer to drink fruit juices or traditional Indian drinks like Lassi, Kokum juice, khus syrup, Shikanjvi, Aam panna, rooh afza and so on because they not only quench the thirst but are cooling to the body.

This is an easy to make cooling refreshing drink. Sabja seeds and rose syrup are both known for their cooling properties in Ayurveda, and the two of them are delightful in this gorgeous beverage. You can also add some ice cubes to the drink.

Aside from being deeply refreshing to the body, this pretty-in-pink summer drink is also very simple to make. You only need 5 ingredients and about 15 minutes to make a batch.

Ingredients & Substitutions

As promised, you only need 5 simple ingredients to make this yummy rose milk recipe. Here’s what to grab:

  • Milk – Feel free to use either dairy milk or your favorite plant-based milk. Just make sure it is nice and chilled.
  • Rose Syrup – You can use either store-bought syrup, or make your own at home with sugar, water, and rose petals.
  • Rose Water – For deeply floral flavors.
  • Sugar – Optional, for extra sweetness. You can use whichever sweetener you prefer, or omit it altogether.
  • Sabja Seeds (Sweet Basil Seeds) – These are an optional addition, but add lovely color, texture, and additional cooling properties. If you’d like a similar texture but can’t find sabja seeds, try using chia seeds.
  • Rose Petals – Optional, but oh-so-beautiful.

Serve rose milk immediately or you can keep it in the fridge and serve it later.

How to make Rose Milkshake

1. In a bowl soak Sabja seeds (sweet basil seeds) in enough water for 20 to 30 minutes. After 20 to 30 minutes strain the water and keep the soaked seeds aside.

1 teaspoon of sabja seeds gives about 2 tablespoons of soaked sabja seeds. The addition of sabja seeds is optional. If you want then you can skip adding it.

You can use store brought or home made rose syrup. Instead of 2 cups of milk, you can also use half-half of milk and water. You can also double or triple this recipe.
