dal tadka recipe

dal being a staple at home, gets tried in different varieties and avatars. what i am sharing in this post, is a version which has been made for decades and is still being made. a family recipe and one which i make often. a comforting and nourishing recipe of dal tadka, which i hope you enjoy as much as we do.

i make this dal tadka both with tuvar (arhar dal or pigeon pea lentils) and moong dal, but you can use a mix of these two dals or use them individually in the recipe. in the post, i have shared the dal recipe made with tuvar dal.

the arhar dal is cooked in the pressure cooker. but if you do not have a pressure cooker, then soak the dal for 1 to 2 hours. then strain and cook the lentils in a deep pot or pan with the other ingredients.

i have also shared the restaurant style dal tadka recipe where charcoal is used to smoke the dal. both the restaurant style dal tadka and this home style dal tadka taste different.

dal tadka is best served with some steamed basmati rice. you can also serve with chapatis.
