hi jhanvi. i have been using sunflower oil for many years now. i find it light for all the north indian cooking that i do at home. it is also a good source of vitamin e. i usually make all the sabzis in sunflower oil. apart from sunflower oil, i also use extra virgin olive oil a lot and coconut oil for south indian or goan food. unprocessed sesame oil is another oil which i use in salad dressings.

there are many other oils available like flax seed oil or rice bran oil etc. you can know more about these oils in detail, regarding the benefits or side effects and then buy the oil which suits your’s and your family’s health.

these links would help you:

i came across one link on the web which informs about the side effects of safflower oil if taken in excess: http://www.ehow.com/facts_5481759_safflower-oil-dangers.html

just one more question dear.. there are oils available like coconut that are said to be used to hair from a long time but on their budget packs edible is written like in parachute.. is it really edible and can be used for cooking???

i would never use parachute oil even if “edible” is mentioned on their pack, simply coz my mind is conditioned to use parachute oil for hair since so many years :-) in goa i would get coconut oil easily and these were meant for cooking. it is just coconut oil with no other oil mixed in it. you will find coconut oil in some super stores which are meant for cooking.

welcome jhanvi. generally if you check the contents of coconut oil of brands like parachute or some other brands, there is always a mixture of other oils used in them and they are not always edible.

i am not sure what is causing this problem. i myself used to take daal in lunch boxes when i was working and never had any issues. i would suggest you to make the dal of medium consistency and not thin. also if possible add hot dal in the lunch box, not warm or cold.

I am a simple Krishna Devotee and I’m just curious to know what is the purpose of establishing Iskcon Temple. I am very well aware of the fact that you’ll involve others in Krishna Bhakti but what process you’ll follow. Is the Krishna Bhakti only for the ones who can afford what is it?
Please explain….coz I’m really disappointed with the fact that Krishna consciousness is not seen in all classes of People….My heart cries in pain when I see the underpriveleged people.
