cheese garlic naan recipe with step by step pics – no yeast cheese garlic naan recipe on tawa or skillet or stovetop.

naan, be it plain or buttered or stuffed with cheese is a favorite at home. i do make naans occasionally. this time around when i made these cheese garlic naans, i took photos also. i have used a mix of whole wheat flour and all purpose flour (maida) to make these naans. you can use only whole wheat flour or all purpose flour (maida).

this is the 6th naan recipe on the blog. other 5 naan recipes are

for the cheese, you can use cheddar cheese or a mix of cheddar cheese and mozzarella cheese. apart from garlic, you can also add some herbs and red chili flakes to the cheese stuffing.

cheese garlic naan can be had plain or served with paneer recipes like paneer butter masala, palak paneer, kadai paneer, paneer lababdar or gravy recipes like chana masala, kadai mushroom, aloo matar, gobi masala, paneer capsicum.

ingredients (1 cup = 250 ml)
for the naan dough:
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour (atta) OR 240 grams whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all purpose flour (maida) OR 125 grams all purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons buttermilk OR curd (yogurt or dahi)
  • 3 tablespoons oil OR butter
  • ⅔ to ¾ cup water OR add as required
other ingredients:
  • 10 to 12 large garlic cloves OR 2 tablespoons garlic paste or minced garlic
  • 100 grams cheese OR 1 cup grated cheese
  • white sesame seeds as required
how to make recipe
preparing naan dough:
  1. take 2 cups whole wheat flour and 1 cup all purpose flour (maida) in a mixing bowl or pan.

  2. add 1.5 teaspoons baking powder, ¼ teaspoon baking soda, 2 teaspoons sugar and 1 teaspoon salt.

  3. mix very well.

  4. now add 3 tablespoons buttermilk or 3 tablespoons curd.

  5. add ⅔ to ¾ cup water in parts.

  6. mix well and then add 3 tablespoons oil or butter.

  7. mix and begin to knead the dough.

  8. knead to soft, smooth and pliable dough.

  9. flatten the dough. brush some water or oil all over the dough. cover the bowl and allow dough to leaven for 2 hours.

assembling, rolling and stuffing:
  1. in a mortar-pestle take 8 large garlic cloves.

  2. crush them to semi-fine or fine paste. keep aside.

  3. make medium sized balls from the dough.

  4. dust some flour on the dough ball.

  5. roll in to a 5 to 6 inches diameter circle.

  6. spread ½ teaspoon garlic paste. for a more garlic taste, you can even add 1 teaspoon garlic paste.

  7. add 2 to 3 tablespoons grated cheese. you can even add 1 tablespoon and less if you want. but it will be like a cheese flavoured naan and not cheese naan. for a more garlic taste, you can even add 1 teaspoon garlic paste.

  8. fold the edges from all around.

  9. bring the edges in the center and then join them. press the joined edges back on the dough.

  10. dust some more flour and roll the stuffed naan.

  11. roll to 7 to 8 inches circle. 

  12. brush some water on the side facing you.

  13. sprinkle some sesame seeds all over and press them with the brush or with your fingers, so that they stick to the naan.

roasting naan:
  1. now place the naan with the sesame seeds side down on a hot tawa.

  2. roast naan on a medium to high flame. it will begin to puff up.

  3. when you see some blisters and the naan begins to puff up, flip it. cook the other side.

  4. flip again when this second side is cooked.

  5. flip a couple of times more for even roasting.

  6. take the naan in a plate and spread some butter on top. this way make all the naans. you cans serve the naans hot or stack them in a roti basket or casserole and then serve later.

  7. serve cheese garlic naans hot or warm.

29. for a slightly crisp naan, you can roast it more.

30. take the naan in a plate and spread some butter on top. this way make all the naans. you cans serve the naans hot or stack them in a roti basket or casserole and then serve later.

31. serve cheese garlic naans hot or warm. you can have it plan or with gravy recipes like aloo gobi, veg handi, paneer masala, matar paneerveg kadai gravy.
